Does your child like to camp? Have they ever slept on an aircraft carrier? How about swim in the Frio River? Or maybe cook s’mores over a camp fire?
Cub Scouting exposes elementary age kids to these outdoor activities (and more), while simultaneously teaching lessons about leadership, self-sufficiency, and healthy habits.
If you are interested in joining Scouts, or have any questions, please feel free to email the Pack 2 Cubmaster at cubmaster@pack2austin.org.
Pack 2 is a very active Cub Scout group of about 60 1st - 5th graders. Most attend Doss Elementary or live in the Northwest Hills neighborhood of Austin, TX - but all are welcome!
We're based out of Northwest Hills United Methodist Church (all faiths welcome) in Austin, TX. We belong to the Armadillo District of the Capital Area Council within the Boy Scouts of America.
Meet Pack 2's leaders who are all adult volunteers and have scouts in the Pack.
The Pack is divided by grade into the following ranks: (click on the rank/grade for more info on each)
Tigers - 1st Grade | Wolves - 2nd Grade | Bears - 3rd Grade | Webelos - 4th Grade | Arrow of Light - 5th Grade |
Campout and Overnights
Our Pack prides itself in providing the scouts with many campouts and overnights within a 3 hour drive of Austin. These allow the scouts to explore the world around them with some planned activities (ie hiking, fishing, or playing capture the flag) but also plenty of unstructured time without electronics! Where possible, these are usually capped off with a ceremonial campfire where the scouts can sing campfire songs, performs skits, tell jokes, and roast marshmallows for s'mores. For the 2024-2025 school year, we are planning the following campouts and overnights:
Camp Mabry | Smilin V Scout Ranch (BBs and Archery) |
In years past, we've also gone to Seawolf Park (sleepover on WW II sub) in Galveston, Zoo Snooze at Cameron Park Zoo in Waco, Smilin V Scout Ranch, Brazos Bend State Park, the USS Lexington WWII aircraft carrier, Guadalupe River State Park, Buescher State Park, Krause Springs, McKinney Roughs Nature Park, Pioneer Farms, H. E. B. Foundation Camp on the Frio River in Leakey, Canyon of the Eagles on Lake Buchanan, Roars & Snores overnight at San Antonio Zoo, Sea World San Antonio
Other Activities
For Thanksgiving and winter holidays, each den adopts a family from T. A. Brown Elementary School to provide family members with items on their wish list.
In December, we have a very vibrant Pinewood Derby race where scouts, family, and friends compete for speed as well as design (most creative, most patriotic, most scout-like).
Pack 2 leads off the Northwest Austin Civic Association’s 4th of July Parade on Far West Blvd.
